Itinerary
Our Scandinavian holidays starts when we meet our Tour Manager and fellow travellers at London Heathrow, before boarding our direct flight to the beautiful city of Stockholm*. Our flight arrives in the late afternoon and we are met and transferred to our central hotel for two nights.
Stockholm is one of Europe's most attractive and unusual capital cities, built across 14 islands which are connected by no fewer than 57 bridges. Much of the city's charm is, wherever you wander, you are always close to water. There's time to get to know the local neighbourhood before we regroup to dine at our hotel this evening.
* Regional departures are also available on this tour, in which case you would be met on arrival in Stockholm and taken to the hotel.

Both Sweden and Norway are unbelievably beautiful and worth seeing. We had unseasonably warm weather which made it all the more enjoyable. Overall, the tour went well, and schedules were kept with little issue. Hotels were at nice locations, clean, and all had very helpful staff to answer any questions one might have about the area. I am hesitant to advise going in early September because many attractions were already closed for the season. As far as transportation goes, we did end up spending way more time on a coach rather than a train. It is understandable that landslides can’t be avoided, and the Polar Express was no longer running as it was end of season. While traveling by coach were strongly discouraged from using the onboard toilet. This is understandable to a point; however, this would not have been a problem if there were more built-in comfort stops with travel by coach. An 8+ hour long travel day with few comfort stops had many on the coach very unhappy. It also would have been nice to have a tour guided that was familiar with history, folklore, or landscapes and could provide information while traveling by coach. Still had a lovely time and met some very nice people .

The trip itself was beautiful & amazing! We made saw some stunning scenery! The only part was the cancellation of some of the trains, due to out of season. More coach then trains! Otherwise it was a fabulous trip!

Loved this trip. Full schedule that took us to amazingly beautiful places. Tour manager Chris Read is outstanding. He is so organized and kept us informed and on track. He provided us with details for our itinerary before the trip that included things to do on when we had free time at locations. Also provided a map to follow our travels. This was so helpful! This was my second vacation by rail trip and I now have plans for 2 more. It would be a bonus if Chris would be the tour manager on the upcoming trips! I highly recommend this trip.

Our trip was well organized, the Tour manager a 10 +. Each stop had interesting visits and highlights different from the last, and yet aligned with what you learned earlier in the trip. It was especially great to travel both the length of Sweden and Norway. The only reason this trip did not get a 5 was because the "way" we traveled was not as advertised and the quality of the city guides was very uneven. We were unable to travel on the train as outlined in three cases. The one line in Sweden was closed for the season which was not highlighted in the brochure and should have been due to the time of year this trip was scheduled. One was for maintenance which was unavoidable and another unsure why. There was also a dinner one night in the brochure that did not happen, so they added a lunch later in the tour which was lovely. Changes are ok, would just wish for more transparency. I would recommend this trip to anyone interested in visiting Scandinavia.
