Set in rolling grassland near the foot of the Rocky Mountains, Calgary is Canada's fourth-largest city. It is also one of its youngest; as late as the 1870s the area was settled with rough wooden shacks, home to native Canadians and whisky traders from the nearby prairies. The coming of the railway brought an influx of people and a wealth of trade for the ranching industry. By the early 20th century, oil was discovered in the region; this cemented Calgary's position as one of North America's most important cities. Now with a lively, affluent atmosphere, Calgary has much to recommend it.

This beautiful island in the Bow River takes its name from Peter Anthony Prince, who donated the land to the city in 1947. As well as being home to some truly beautiful flora and scenery, the park is also a celebrated centre of culture, and has hosted many of Calgary's exciting festivals.
Accommodating up to 25,000 spectators, this impressive stadium is best known for hosting Calgary's world-famous 'Stampede'. Held every year since 1923, the festival celebrates the city's history with ten days of rodeos, chuck-wagon racing and much more - and it is one of Canada's most popular events.
