Connemara

The name Connemara means 'Inlets of the Sea'. This outstanding region of brooding scenery is marked by a series of coastal roads, which wind around small bays and untouched coves and string together a succession of seaside hamlets.

A little further inland, Connemara reveals a kaleidoscope of dramatic, quiet valleys and shimmering lakes, all set against the fantastic backdrop of the Maumturk Mountains and the stony peaks of the Twelve Bens Mountain Range. Here the region gives an aura of being undiscovered; much of the community here speaks Irish almost exclusively. This magnificent landscape, laced with dry-stone walls, has naturally been attracting visitors for well over a century and, with the numerous attractions of the area's quiet villages, is a must for any visit to Ireland.
